Installation

No issues. I opted for custom partitioning (partitions were already in place from previous install) and to keep Windows VIsta partitions (System/Recovery) intact.

Boot Time (Power on -> login screen)

First boot following install = 50 seconds (including default 10 second grub menu delay)

Login Time (Login screen -> usable desktop)

First login following install = 80 seconds
Second login = 50 seconds

Sound
Sound was broken for speakers and headphones following install. To get sound working add the following to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf;

options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4 enable_msi=1

  1. The sound started to work when I added the suggested line in alsa-basa.conf. However, the sound in the headphones does now work! Anyone?

  2. I've tried this and the wireless button was not recognised so I couldn't get on the Web?!

  3. Try running "alsamixer" and adjusting the controls. At present I haven't managed to get headphones to cut the speaker output but you can manually adjust the "Front" audio channel to achieve the same.

  4. ath5k driver works fine for me although I've found it much more reliable if I restrict the speed to 11M. Add the following to /etc/rc.local

    /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M auto
